Unacceptably short 15-minute home care visits to elderly and disabled people are still plaguing the care system in England, a report suggests.

Research by Unison found “distressing” cases of care being compromised after surveying councils and care workers. Councils are not meant to schedule 15-minute visits for personal care, like help with washing, dressing or eating. But the union said its findings showed many were still doing just that despite repeated calls for longer visits.

Ministers have been demanding councils which are in charge of care services stop using the so-called “flying visits”.

Everycare is pleased that we have never done 15 minute calls as we have always believed you cannot deliver any form of quality care in that time.

Everycare Wirral is pleased to announce that on the mornings of the 19th and 20th February, we are running Dementia Awareness Coffee Mornings to introduce our comprehensive services to the community, discuss the issues involved and the effects of living with dementia for clients , family and friends and to help develop a better understanding of the condition.

The Alzheimer’s Society reports the following statistics for dementia:

•  By 2015 there will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK.
• There are 40,000 younger people with dementia in the UK.
• There are 25,000 people with dementia from black and minority ethnic groups in the UK.
• There will be 1 million people with dementia in the UK by 2025.
• Two thirds of people with dementia are women.

Everycare Wirral, based in Heswall, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dawn Macdonald, as their new Care Manager.

Dawn who comes to Everycare Wirral with a wealth of experience, having previously worked at various care providers throughout North Wales and Wirral. Dawn became aware of the importance of keeping older people in their own homes and saw, first hand, what a difference good quality care can make.

Dawn commented, “I am delighted to be working at Everycare Wirral. Older people are often unjustly stereotyped as being incapable of making their own decisions and people also forget that older people have a wealth of knowledge and interesting experiences and stories to share. It was her personal experience which led her to want to work in care. She lives by the ethos of treating others how you would wish to be treated, saying, “I believe we have a responsibility to treat everybody in our community with respect and dignity, I am passionate about care, and aim to carefully tailor bespoke packages of care that specifically meets the requirements of each individual client.

When she’s not working, Dawn is passionate about reading classical novels and enjoys long walks in the countryside.
