OVER 65s BECOME TECH SAVVY IN WINCHESTER

eVWERYCARE COMPUTER EVENT WINCHESTERTechFest65 – Winchester, 5th October 2017.

TechFest65, an event designed to help over 65s become more confident using modern technology, is coming to the Winchester Discovery on Friday 13th October. This free event is being organised by Winchester-based domiciliary and live-in care provider, Everycare, in conjunction with Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone.

According to recent Age UK statistics, there are 6 million older people who have never even used the internet yet. Inspired by statistics like these, TechFest65 was conceived to help the over 65 population of Winchester get the most out of new technology. Hosted at the Winchester Discovery Centre, Jewry Street on Friday 13th October at 10am, the free event gives attendees the opportunity to learn more about how to use smartphones, tablets, apps, social media and more. Attendees will also be able to participate in free demonstrations provided by Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse, whilst enjoying tea, coffee and cake.

Tickets can be booked through www.techfest65.co.uk, by emailing booking@techfest65.co.uk or phoning Everycare on 01962 842548.

The morning, which is totally free, will run from 10am – 12:30pm and is available to anyone over the age of 65. Event organisers hope that attendees will learn how get more out of the technology available to them, helping them connect with friends and family, use the internet safely and feel more included in modern society.

Mike Frizzell, Managing Director said: “Everycare recognise that as you get older, it’s not always easy to get to grips with new technology. With this event, we want to help people over the age of 65 to see how easy and quick it is to connect with their loved ones with the use of smartphones, tablets, and social media.”

Everycare’s Care Manager, Karen Whitmill added: “There aren’t enough opportunities for the over 65s to learn new skills. I think this event will be a great opportunity for them to get to grips with new technology and apply that to their personal life.”
